Week 3 of the 52 stories is “What goals are you actively working towards right now?”

The goals I am currently working towards are:

-To loose as much weight as possible (another personal goal)
-Organizing my genealogy – currently I am reviewing each family week by week. Once this is done I will start making sure they are inputted into Rootsmagic.
-Researching through the 4th generation.
-To keep blogging at least once or twice a week.

So far I am currently keeping up with my goals. Tomorrow I will do week 4 of the 52 stories as I am a week behind.

Review – Lovett Family

I have not done any research on the Lovett side (paternal’s mother side of the family) of my family.

So my main focus will be Annie Lovett, here will be my questions:

-When and where born?
-Who are her parents?
-Any siblings?

I have all the information, from her marriage to death. I do not have her obituary therefore, will try and find this.

Once I know more about Annie’s siblings, I will focus on them answering the following questions:

-When and where born?
-Who did they marry? Where and when?
-When and where did they die?  Why did they die?
-Any obituary?
-If buried, where?

Then I will move onto the parents looking at:

-When and where born?
-Who are their parents?
-Any siblings?
-When did they marry and where?
-When and where did they die? Why did they die?
-Any obituary?
-If buried, where?

I failed to do the 52 Stories this week, so I plan to do 2 tomorrow.

Continue – Review Hill/Brown

Sydney W Brown

I have found a birth index, however will need to obtain the birth certificate to find out the correct date and person.

Need to find out if Sydney was in World War 1.  Will look into this.

Have found a some potential children, will need to review these and see if they are related.

Have found a death index but will need to obtain the certificate to confirm if this is the correct person and if so, where, when and how he died.

Will also find out if he was buried and if so, contact Barry Cemetery to see where.

Idris F Hill

This is my great grand father.

Need to adventure into Glamorgan Archives and look into the school logs see if there is anything of interest.

Need to obtain his death certificate to find out how he died.

Bessie Dinning

I have yet to find out Bessie’s exact birthday to find her index.  Her age changes from census to census.  Therefore still need to find birth index and obtain birth certificate to confirm parents.

I know she was born in Somerset, so my main question is why did she travel to Barry was it for work for William Brown?

I have yet to find the marriage index to her first husband

Also need to obtain death certificate (this might also help me with the birth) to find out how she passed away.

John A Hill

I have yet to find John’s birth index and will purchased birth certificate when found to confirm mother.

Will obtain death certificate to confirm when, where and how he died.  This might also help me find the birth index.

Hopefully, when I find more details about Bessie and John, these will make me ask more questions.

Thats it for now.   52 stories will be tomorrow.

Review – Hill/Brown Family

I am currently researching my great grandfather’s family.  Have found out he has 7 half siblings from his mother’s (my great great grandmother) first marriage.

Arland Brown (aka Arnold Brown)

This is the first person I have been looking into detail with.   I know he had two wives, Gladys Mary Goodwin and Esther Hocking.  I know from his second marriage certificate that Gladys died.  My first question is to find out how she passed away.

On the first marriage certificate states that he was a a Gunner in Royal Garrison Artillery. I have yet to find the military record.  Hopefully it is not one of the records that were burnt during WW2.  I will keep looking.

I know the Glamorgan Archives have school logs for the school that Arland Brown went to, so next time I can I will go there and have a look.

I have yet to find out all his kids, I do have his obituary so hopefully this will help me determine them all.

Frank J Brown

I managed to find his birth through GRO.   I have yet to buy the certificate to make sure that this is him and to find out exactly where he was born.

Looking at the records it looks like he was married twice, Beatrice Cotterll and Mable M Burge.  I know that Mable M Burge died in 1919 but I have yet to find out more about the marriages in general, where and exactly when?  How did Mable Burge die?

I am not sure if he did any military service and have yet to look into this.

I think I found a death record for Frank J Brown, however not sure this is him.  Unable to find a will which confirms this.  Therefore will need to get the certificate to confirm this.

Also need to look into his kids and also if he was buried, where? I have yet to obtain his obituary, so will look for this again.

Charles William Brown

It took me awhile to find out what this guy’s name was.  The 1891 census  says his name was John C however all the other census’ says he was Charles William Brown.  I have managed to find his birth index which confirms he was born as Charles William Brown.  I have get to get his birth certificate to confirm where and exactly when he was born.

Charles passed away during world war 1.   I have his military records and plan to do a story of his time during world war 1.

Albert Victor Brown (Aka Victor Brown)

I know found a marriage index which states that Albert married Gwendoline Elkins therefore will need to obtain the certificate to find out if this is them and where they were married.

I have yet to determine all their kids.  I have a his obituary which confirms 3 of them.

Found a death index and obituary which confirms when he died and where.  However will need to obtain death certificate to find out how he died.

Need to determine if he was buried or not.  If so, will contact Barry Cemetery to find out where.

Gladys Rose Brown

Found a birth index, however will need to obtain birth certificate to confirm correct person and where she was born.

I have found a marriage index for 2 people.  Gladys married William C Amos in 1915 and then Ernest F Rich in 1947.  Will need to obtain marriage certificate to find out where they were married.  Also would like to find out what happened with William C Amos.

I have found a death index however will need to obtain the death certificate to confirm where and how.

No obituary found yet, will try again when in Barry to check out the newspaper. Will also try and find out if she was buried and if so, will contact Barry cemetery and see where she is buried.

Wyndham F C Brown

Have found birth index however will need to obtain birth certificate to find out if this is the correct person and if so where and when.

Found a marriage index between Wyndham and Emily L Godfrey.  Will need to obtain marriage certificate to find out where and when.

I have found his military records therefore would like to do a story about what he did during the time.

Think I have identified some children, therefore will need to verify these.

Found a death index and obituary for Wyndham however still need certificate to confirm why he passed away.

Will also need to find out if he was buried and if so, where.  Will need to contact Barry Cemetery.

Violet May Hill

Have found birth index however will need to obtain birth certificate to confirm correct person and where and when.

Have found marriage index confirming she married a Thomas H Enos. Will need to obtain marriage certificate to confirm when and where.

Think I have found the children however will need to confirm this.

Have found death index for Violet.  Will need to obtain certificate to confirm where, when and how. No obituary found at the moment, will try again when I am back in Wales.

Will find out if she was buried, and if so where.  Will need to contact Barry Cemetery to confirm where.

Will continue the remaining 4 people who I need to research tomorrow together with 52 stories.

Week 2 – 52 Stories

Question this week is “What is something you taught yourself to do without help from anyone else?”

I am having trouble thinking of something that I have taught myself.  I want to say genealogy however, I do not think that without the expert genealogist and their webinars I do not think I would know as much as I do today.

Even from a young child, do we teach ourselves anything.  From walking, talking, eating, manners, writing, education.  Generally we are taught or at least influence from parents, teachers etc.

Also with the internet and books, we are not too far away from learning anything.  But is it really self taught if we watch someone or if we google it?  Aren’t we learning from someone, it might not necessary be someone in a classroom or a book.

If I come up with anything, I’ll update in the future.

Review – Brine/White Family

This side of the family is my mother in laws side of the family.  My mother-in-law was adopted at a young age.  She has found her sister and is in contact with her, unfortunately her mother passed away before she meet her. We have been advised of a name of her father, however have not had any luck in finding anything about him.

So thats start with her mother’s name:

Brine

I have not done much in this area, but I do know her mother’s name and where she was living.  Therefore I can most likely start on this area when I can.  My main area is my mother-in-law’s mother, Gwendoline Brine.

My questions are:

-Who are here parents?
-Where and when she was born?
-Did she have any siblings?
-I note she died in 1997 but exactly where and how?
-I know she married Phillip Baker in 1954, but where and when?

White

I have a name of Eric White and a possible place he lived.  However the Eric White I have found there, I’m not sure its the correct one.  Therefore, I am relying on the Autosomal DNA that my mother-in-law has taken to hopefully give us a clue, but to date no clue has appeared.  Maybe something will appear in the future.

Waters

This is my mother-in-law’s adopted father’s line of the family.  I have not done much at the moment, but my questions for Arthur Harry Waters are:

-Where and when born?
-Who is his parents?
-Where and when married?
-Any siblings?

Legge

This is my mother-in-law’s adopted mother’s line of the family.  I have know her mother, Irene Joan Legge was married previously and had 2 children previously. I will continue researching, my questions are:

-Where and when she was born?
-Who are her parents?
-Any siblings?
-Who was her first marriage to? Where and when?
-Who are these 2 children previously?  Are they still alive?  If so, does my mother in law want to contact them?
-Did they get a divorce?  What exactly happened?

Lots to think about and research.

Ciao for now.
